V.I. Forestry Festival featuring Stihl Timbersports

The 2009 Vancouver Island Forestry festival features the Stihl Timbersports Western Division Championships.
The Stihl Timbersports has a maximum of 16 competitors in six competitions that include traditional wood chopping and sawing. The competitors race against time and each other for $5,000 in prize money and a coveted spot at the National Championship in the fall. Timbersports competitors are known for their dedicated training, strength and determination. The competition will be filmed and air this fall on TSN, Canada's sports network.
The event also includes family activities such as children’s logger sports, a logger and wood trade show, tree climbing demonstrations, and train rides.
In the evening after the event, a dance will be held at the museum featuring live music from Bijou du Bayo, beverage garden, and barbeque.
The event and dance are put on in partnership between the BC Forest Discovery Centre and the Vancouver Island Forestry festival committee.
